Strange to think that there was a possibility of his first single being 'Silver Song' which was recorded some years before 'In The Air Tonight', Anthony Phillips wrote this song as a respectful nod towards departing Genesis drummer John Silver
Due to the pressures of constant recording and touring with Genesis in the late seventies and early eighties Phil had marriage problems which (to his credit) he tried to sort out by moving to be with his wife in Vancouver, Canada; he was unable to save his marriage and turned to music to convey his feelings, which led to (you guessed it) more recording and touring! His ex-wife must have been thinking "Will he ever learn!"
'In The Air Tonight' was an incredible start to a solo career that grew and grew through the eighties. Just two highs were; a dual appearance on both Live Aid stages in 1985 which was achieved courtesy of an Atlantic hopping journey on Concorde, and the album '...But Seriously' in 1989 and its subsequent tour.
